Good to know
- A crate mat is the thin, low-profile option — made to line a crate or carrier, or to give a dog a defined spot on a hard floor. It is padding, not a mattress: fine for short rests and travel, thin for an all-night bed for a heavy dog.
- Polyfill: loose polyester stuffing — light, soft and cheap, and the fill most likely to clump and flatten with daily use. Fluffing it back up regularly genuinely helps.
- Listed at 47 × 29 inches. Size the bed to the dog stretched out, not curled up: measure nose to tail base, add a few inches, and compare against the sleeping area — on bolster beds the inside measurement is smaller than the outside one.
- Listed as water-resistant: a resistant layer between cover and fill helps spills and accidents stay out of the foam. Resistant is not waterproof — a soaked bed still needs the cover off and everything dried fully.
